Golden maple leaves in the morning sun, in the main temple grounds. 朝日に照らされた金色のもみじ。
A sunny morning. An oasis of peace and tranquillity, steps away from the crowds. At the garden of Hogon-in Temple, a sub-temple of Tenryu-ji. 晴れた朝。人混みから少し離れた、静寂と安らぎのオアシス。天龍寺の塔頭、宝厳院の庭園にて。
I love coming up here and looking down at the Katsura/Oi/Hozu River (it changes names) as it winds its way through the gorge. I've taken many photos from here. 私はここに来て峡谷を縫うように流れる大堰川を見下ろすのが大好きだ。 ここからたくさんの写真を撮ってきた。
Respect of nature is one of the main principles of Japanese culture. Carving your name in a bamboo tree is a good way to injure or even kill it. Defacing trees in the Bamboo Grove is one of many factors driving recent anti-foreigner sentiment in Japan.

The garden at Murin-an (1896), the former private residence of Yamagata Aritomo, one of Japan's leading statesmen at the turn of the 20th Century. 無鄰菴の庭園（1896年）は、明治・大正時代の日本を代表する政治家、山縣有朋の旧私邸であった。
I found myself on a boat in the middle of Lake Biwa today. A glassy lake reflects the beautiful clouds, the city of Otsu and Mt. Hiei. This is the other side of Kyoto's eastern mountains (Higashiyama). 今日、私は琵琶湖の真ん中でボートに乗っていた。鏡のような湖面に美しい雲、大津の街、比叡山が映る。ここは京都の東山の反対側だ。
