PINEWIND

I'm a 30-something guy, originally from Europe, but now based in Japan/Tokyo. I enjoy art (both appreciating and creating), reading, stationery, various forms of note-taking and journaling, design in almost all of its forms, architecture, and occasionally going to karaoke (although I'm not very good at it).

Perusing the Bear Blog Discovery Feed has become a part of my daily routine (usually during my commute / on the train). Semi-intentionally, I've established a mini-practice that I call "Bear Blog picks", where I scroll through the "Most...
General happeningsThis week was OK overall. One of those weeks that's not unpleasant, but also one where nothing truly exciting happened. I'll chalk that up as a positive. Did some drawing / painting with friends in the park on the...
Over the past month, I've looked at quite a lot of blogs. Each one is a bit different. Of course, the design and the contents differ, but what I'm most interested in is the structure. Most follow the "time stream" format, with the posts...
I found this quote below in a copy of Ver Sacrum (the official magazine of the Vienna Secession), displayed at an exhibition I went to recently. I wouldn't call myself a religious person, so the part about "God" doesn't particularly...
Back in high school, I was a big fan of the anime Bakemonogatari. From today's viewpoint, this is an old anime; the first season aired in 2009. After watching it (because the sequels weren't out yet, it must've been ca. 2011), I went out...
Note / Comment (click to expand) The text below is a transcript of the narration from a video shown at the exhibition "Shinji Ohmaki: Interface of Being", entitled "Rustle of Existence." The video was projected at a very wide screen and,...
In recent years (or maybe the recent decade?) the word "growth" has acquired a certain negative connotation - at least in circles that I consider myself part of or aligned with. As a capitalistic code word, it stands for everything that...
General happeningsBetter weather this week, I general felt better since some health problems cleared up. I tried shifting towards an early-sleep-early-wakeup schedule this week, and it seems like my body hasn't fully adapted to it yet....
Going to museums is one of my main hobbies. I'm not formally trained in any particular form of art or art history; I just enjoy looking at different types of art. Like anyone else, I have my favourite styles and artists, but overall, I'm...
Ever since (re-)starting the blog, I've found so many interesting websites and online resources by reading other blogs. This is a really fun and rewarding aspect of exploring the indie web. I used to find it a bit weird when people said...
Usually, when heading somewhere or doing some mindless task (doing the dishes, cleaning, grocery shopping), I listen to podcasts or music. It's a good way to fill that unused time, to provide input through a sensory organ that isn't...
I missed last month's carnival (the topic was "your favourite meme"), mostly because I couldn't really think of one. I guess I don't use memes extensively enough to have a favourite. Instead of memes, I mostly collect quotes and funny...
Every now and then, I have these moments where, for some reason, I suddenly start to marvel at really banal things. I don't know what causes it, but it feels like my threshold for what counts as "normal" or "unremarkable" gets lowered...
Note: This is a submission for the Grizzly Gazette Carnival for April 2026 hosted by Sage. The topic for this month is "your favourite unconventional animal." The first thing I did when I read about this month's carnival theme was...
