I don't get out. If everyone's blind, and it's only been one day, why is everyone killing themselves without first trying to figure out if there's help or cure? Seems rushed and lazy. I'll keep reading out of curiosity and hopefully it gets better.
I’m not a big perfume guy. I’ve been wearing 212 Men by Carolina Herrara (well, actually by Alberto Morillas, Rosendo Mateu and Ann Gottlieb) for years just because I happened to have bought a bottle at some point[1]. Perfumes are expensive. They’re strong; they cling to you for days, making it difficult to try new...
We are dropping support for this feature in curl 8.17.0. Kerberos5 FTP to be exact. The last Kerberos support we had for FTP. Badness On September 16, 2025 we received a security report that accurately identified a possible stack based buffer overflow in the Kerberos FTP code that could allow a malicious FTP server...
Everyone needs a Get Your Shit Together day every once in a while...
More bookmarks of interesting things I saw this week, or remembered that I’d previously bookmarked this week. There is an upright piano in our back lane. Probably there to be taken away with the bins but I get the feeling it’s going to disappear into someone’s van before then. Someone will want a project. A […]
It's funny, earlier I wrote about how disliking things feels isolating. But the flip side of that is that disliking the same things can bring you closer together. Nothing excites me like someone who has the same opinions as I do. My husband and I recently went to see The Fantastic Four1. After liking Superman so...
RSS readers mostly 1 work by "polling" web feeds to retrieve posts. At a specified interval, the server will try to download every feed to which a user is subscribed, and add any new posts to the database. These posts are then displayed in a user's reader. Building a web reader is fun and technically interesting in...
Hi-fi snobs and complacent manufacturers colluded to rob us of our tone controls in the 90s. Why should we care?
A day late, and still trying to complete SuperWendy’s TBR Challenge; the theme for this month is, “Friend Squad”, and this book’s blurb mentions a “close-knit building”, which I stretched to mean close friends (it’s not; her neighbors are more her family). Beware: grief and trauma from emotional neglect and betrayal...
Did you know that the melting point of glass is somewhere above 600°C? Glass doesn't have a clearly defined melting point like water does, but at this temperature it becomes somewhat soft and gooey. The hotter it gets the more fluid it becomes. You really have to heat it up a lot to turn glass into a liquid. (And...
Writing articles for De Programmatica Ipsum made me adopt a workflow to read and annotate research papers. Most of the material that I use to write articles for DPI are papers, nearly all in PDF format, some with OCR’d text, some without (particularly older ones).
First of a short series of posts, where I introduce my switch to an operating system released in 2013, running in a computer built the same year. I can't possibly explain all the fine details of how it works, it'd require a book, but I'll try to dig out the best impressions. As explained at the end of July, I found...
Daddy's home! Someone seriously needs to scoop him up and let him do this kind of stuff again once he's loose from CBS. Hopefully Paramount doesn't own all of the IP related to The Colbert Report... 0:00 /4:44 1Ă— Source
It has taken six (6) days of turning off every power-saving setting I could possibly find and wrangling cats away from the delicious braided power cord to get Time Machine to do its thing. I think I'm finally ready for the Molten Silica upgrade or whatever they're calling it.This release of macOS shares similarities...
Friction to feel. The rattle of a train moving in the quiet late night wouldn’t be the best sleep one could get but youth and excitement forgive. We had bunks to sleep in, which is far better than what most train infrastructure offered at the time. My travel mates, usually my cousin and friend, would get up...
LinkedIn changed its terms to share more data with Microsoft for advertising purposes. It’s routine — nothing dramatically new or alarming — but I liked that, in the explanatory document, LinkedIn included direct links to the three settings that, when turned off, stop that data sharing. Thanks…? Just click the links...
7:14 am thirst day slept chamber 18 2025. weird dream this morning, but dont remember. well theyre all weird, lets face it. around 12:30, 1 am? last night we heard a loud fairly steady shriek, clearly...
James O’Sullivan, writing for Noema: While content proliferates, engagement is evaporating. Average interaction rates across major platforms are declining fast: Facebook and X posts now scrape an average 0.15% engagement, while Instagram has dropped 24% year-on-year. Even TikTok has begun to plateau. People aren’t...
To continue on the seasonal theme, the people of the Bonk Wave community have released another 2 albums in the last weeks. It’s time for summer now, so get ready for some sunny tunes. This time, the first album is all original summer vibes from various independent artists, and the second contains tunes composed...
