An interesting idea; start your work surface with nothing: The next time you begin your workday, try this: clear your work surface completely. Close all browser tabs. Create a fresh page in your notebook. Open only the one file you need.
It’s been a fruitful week for synthwave fans who love well-crafted pop songs from talented Scots fowk. A week after we got a new FM-84 track, out comes the inimitable Michael Oakley with the massive single “World of Promises” (with backing vocals by Dana Jean Phoenix) and its impressively executed music video. Oh, and did […] The post Michael Oakley Returns With The Explosive ‘World Of Promises’ appeared first on Vehlinggo.
I wasn’t feeling inspired by this week’s topic, since the only answers that leaped to mind for deceased authors I wish were still writing were Tolkien and Le Guin. I […]
Over the years, I’ve learned that being a Technical Program Manager (TPM) is a bit of a strange hybrid role. You’re expected to understand the tech well enough to contribute meaningfully, but you’re not the one writing and deploying the code anymore. The best
One of the recurring hobbies of the programming community is to self-righteously self-flagellate about how we don’t do Real EngineeringTM like those other engineering disciplines do, with their blueprints, and licensing processes for Real Engineers, and planning, and site testing, and all their wonderful formal processes that we so callously ignore. If only we could do more planning up front, and be more careful about what we’re doing, and copy all that other stuff they...
“Like a snail I have lived in a small shell, which I found snug and comfortable, yet longed to desert often to inhale outside atmosphere. Each time I thrust my tentacle out, I felt it touching something unfriendly and drew it back to the old hole. Thus I have led a blank life and seem […]
Oh we here at Set Side B try to make all kinds of posts, but among my personal favorite kind are finding some deep dive into some aspect of a game’s inner workings and presenting it. These days, for multiple reasons (such as ease of monetization) many of these dives turn out to be Youtube … Continue reading "Christian Hammond Investigates Faxanadu Internals"

Yup. More snow. At least the rhubarb (second picture) can handle it. The garlic seems fine, too. I think my winter sown beds are toast. I’m skipping the dump run today. On another note, I got the new topical painkiller, diclofenac, applied last night. Between that and regular painkillers, I actually slept, with only a … Continue reading *sigh*
If I were asked to give a young man or woman a bit of advice taking only a minute or two, it would run as follows: Try to regard your states of minds as visits to places. Now I am in the angry place or the melancholy place or the misunderstood-by-everybody place. The point is, […]
There’s been talk going around about a new protocol, humans.json - not to be confused with humans.txt, of course. The purpose of this protocol, as I understand it, is to provide yet another way for us on the open web to differentiate ourselves from AI and to “vouch” for each other. I’ll start by pointing out, I did go ahead and implement this on my site. I like joining in on these sorts of things because I see it as just another way of promoting other sites that I like/love.
Guy dancing to music in the driver’s seat of your car, I like your vibe. 🎶
When you join an array in JavaScript, the default separator is a comma: node ['j', 'a', 'k', 'e'].join() 'j,a,k,e'
Forgive me, Reader. It’s been five months since my last vibe check. That’s a lot of ground to cover and it’s not possible to get into everything that happened. Like in real life conversations, instead of telling you how I’m doing, I’ll tell you what I’ve been doing these past few months. A trip to Seattle An underwhelming, low-res photo I took on my Kodak Charmera In March I went to Redmond, WA for “Meetup Week” at work. This was my second visit to the mothership in two...

Peter Enns shares a new article, which states: The finding that government policy is “virtually unrelated to the desires of the low- and middle-income citizens” (Gilens 2005:789) is one of the most influential social science results of the last two … Continue reading →
🔗: finally looking up guy pouppez | jenn I have also been listening to Angles and found this fascinating
Most of my friends pull out their phones even in the middle of the woods. I tend to roll my eyes and tolerate this. Merlin and PlantNet are certainly useful. But I grew up on field guides and conversations with more experienced naturalists. Instant AI-enabled possible-answers feel more like junk food info to me. That said, my favorite "field guide" recently has been Wikipedia. I don't usually look stuff up while in the field. I do what I've always done: make notes, maybe...
