Hello hello hello! Before we get into things this week, I wanted to mention that Friends of the Foof, Throwback Buys are running their Nostalgia Auction Pt. 6. If you're a child of the 90's, have some aging decrepit millennials in your life (or just want to support our real life friends back in Chicago), you should...
I did it. I finally bought a new Mac. I managed to snatch a MacBook Neo on Amazon a few minutes after Apple announced the price increase across their line-up. It all happened very quickly, but I think itâs worth taking the time to explain my messy, complex, overcomplicated train of thought. If youâre a regular...
Well, I am back, and it was a joy to see Gloucester cathedral again â if not the city of Gloucester, which is now, sadly, the very model of English urban degeneration, dereliction and decay. A sorry fate for a once fine town, and one that is all too common, thanks to terrible urban planning, bad architecture, drugs...
Wasat v0.3.0 is now available. This is a pretty small update, but one that's going to be useful in the next release of Rogallo. I've now got client certificate support up and going in the application, and I thought it might be useful to show the user if a given page is using a client certificate or not (and,...
As a teenager, I searched for an identity and found it with music, inside gaming subcultures and the things I consumed. I could assign a role to myself and people would recognize me as someone from that group. It defined me through my clothing, the things I talked about and my social media presence. It was an easy...
Replied to 2026 Nagoya basho predictions! The Isegahama takeover begins by Tim Edwards (Sumo Stomp!) My prediction for the 2026 Nagoya basho is a play-off between HĆshĆryĆ« and Atamifuji. If that comes to fruition, I think itâs a toss up between those two who takes it. HĆshĆryĆ« has more talent, in my opinion, but...
The account of the election of the first three doges of Venice (Pauluccio, Marcello and Orso), from the "Istoria Veneticorum" by John the Deacon.

A direct-mail man was once asked how he could live with himself, sending out all that junk. There is no junk mail, he said. There are junk people. He meant it as a defense and it isnât one, but buried in the ugliness is the only useful theory of slop I know, and it starts by denying that slop is a thing at all....
I have not posted for ages. After about a month away from home, I updated my "now" page and changed the photo on my "home" page. I am using those efforts and this brief post in an attempt to resuscitate my writing habit. I am hopeful that just a few words today will serve to inspire a few more tomorrow. Momentum....
Hi hello. Happy #Caturday! I would like to introduce you to our little weirdo, Lennie. Look at this little dummy! What a sweetie.Richmond, VA Lennie is the newest member of The Goblin Hoard. He was born 06/28/2025 and his gotcha date was 10/04/2025. We don't exactly know his breed, but he looks like a lynx point...
2026-07-11Hello!I resisted music streaming for a long while. The appeal of listening to music in the background never sat right with me. But it has its uses. When I signed up for a Spotify account, I configured my algorithm and listened to several jazz tracks. Some classy track came up, and it gave me the tasty...
Recently, I've been on a bit of a "literature trip." Reading books, listening or watching commentary on books, thinking about writing... It started with me re-listening to some old Shriekcast episodes, which made me remember how much I liked Harry Potter in my teens and think about how there hasn't been a book that...
Welcome to the beginning. The end happened months ago but like many endings, sometimes they take awhile. The End Snook.ca has, for the better part of of the last 25 years, been mostly a professional outlet for me. What started out as âTechnical Articlesâ turned into âa collection of tips, tricks, and bookmarks on...

I experienced a trauma that my fellow disabled people encounter on a daily basis. It was early in the morning, and I was checking my email. I got an email from someone that wanted me to consider writing about their disabled business or whatever it was. They werenât important, so I was just about to dismiss it, but...
6th July - 12th July Thick morning fog completely hides the hills on the horizon. smudging the yolk-gold sun like it's trying to erase it from the sky but, instead, spreads it across the firmament like butter. It feels like a dream. Not entirely sure what possessed us to take a day trip by public transport during a...
Perhaps ironically given the subject matter, I found this 34-minute video by Razbuten a bit intense, but I would still recommend it to people who work on onboarding, settings, etc.: In the video, the author tries to answer the question: how to make any given game a challenge, given there is no universal standard of...
I'm not happy about it, but putting in a heatpump isn't cheap, so I have to make-do with what I have. In this case, a gas heater. And a gas supply contract with Contact Energy, as they were the only one that supplied gas-only connections. I didn't want to give up Powershop for electricity.
There were lights and I had earplugs!Currently Listening: Muse âUprisingâReply via email
July 2026. Saltaire to Bingley. A late (9:30) start to Day 5 of the Cask Camino on Monday morning meant we missed the best of the Holiday Inn Express (i.e. the scrambled eggs), which came as a shock after missing breakfasts in Armenia because they didnât start till 9am. We resume at Saltaire station, the stretch to...
That ship has sailed. It sailed years ago when we all happily leapt on to Facebook, then Twitter, and before that Google already had all our data anyway. We willingly, naively perhaps, made ourselves the product. Tech will always tech, tech bros will always monetise without thought of ethics. We made this bed. Can...

So I was optimizing a domain-specific compressor the other day, as one does. One important problem was chunking the input string and optimally choosing the most compact encoding for each chunk (different encodings compress different characters better, so where to split is not immediately obvious). The previous post...
There is a trend called the âwall staringâ. If you are unaware of this â blissfully so â it is Gen-Z meditation rediscovery â stubborn creatures they are. They set the clock and stare at a wall for 10 minutes. This act of doing nothing rests their brain. Something the Dutch have done for a long time and even have a...
OverviewThis week had a very familiar pattern: attackers kept aiming at the places where normal business systems concentrate trust. File-sharing controllers, identity-aware edge appliances, developer platforms, AI workflow tools, CMS plugins, endpoint security engines, bootloaders, and kernels all showed up because...
