By: Iain M. Banks | Rating: 4/5Some great short stories of the Culture. The exploration of various themes is quite engrossing. The discussion on whether to destroy Earth or not is excellent. The ending chapters were too confusing for me to understand.

By: Al J. Venter | Rating: 5/5An absolutely fascinating book about a Rhodesian guy who became a helicopter pilot and flew them all over the world, seeing many conflicts up close. Besides learning about his adventures I now somehow know a lot about how to fly a helicopter in all kinds of adverse conditions.

By: Paul Elliott | Rating: 3/5I have now read this book 2 times.I seem to remember this book differently. I bought it thinking I would learn a lot of late roman tactics, training and equipment, but this book really skims over all the topics it touches very superficially.

Another year, another conference: same lanyards, same lukewarm coffee, and the same sea of white bald men nodding gravely at slides about innovation and the cybers.

Three years ago I got a DJI Mini 3 Pro for my birthday. Flying it around and getting aerial pictures is great fun. Lately, though, it mostly stays in its bag. This is about why.The droneIt's tiny. The camera is decent: a 1/1.3-inch sensor behind an f/1.7 lens, which is a big sensor for something this size. It has 48...

“We need to stop letting a small number of private companies, acting and talking in increasingly erratic ways, dictate how we’re supposed to feel about A.I.” Exactly right. Also, most companies get into serious issues when they wilfully misrepresent their products or are actively harming others. It's long overdue...

By: Iain M. Banks | Rating: 3/5I love this novel finally shows what Special Circumstances actually does: find someone who is very good at war and point him at other people's wars. In the earlier books that looked like a net good. Here it doesn't so much any more, there's a lot of moral ambiguity. The problem is...
