I used to think that reading would make me wise. One day, ten pages before finishing a book, I realized that I had read that same book before. At that point, my perspective on reading and, therefore, my life had changed. Now, I don’t care how many books I read; I take many notes, connect dots, and share what I’ve found on my blog and newsletter. I’m interested in many things at the same time (I’m a multipotentialite). On this blog, you’ll find me talking to about multiple aspects of life like leadership, software engineering, philosophy, psychology, software architecture & design, urban & industrial design, exercising, finance, Formula1 Racing, eating healthy, and many more. I’m a software engineering manager; that’s my current job. At home, I’m a writer and an avid reader. I rarely watch TV, movies or TV series. I don’t have any social media account (except Mastodon where I have automated posting of my new articles). Hence, I often miss the popular culture references in conversations. That’s alright. I don’t have FOMO; I embrace JOMO. I rarely read fictional books.

Writing by hand is more effective than writing on a computer or other electronic device. Handwriting forces us to understand the fundamental idea, concept, and structure of the thought better. The main reason is that handwriting is slow....
Write briefly what you understood and your thoughts in your own sentences. Keep all notes in one place. Sort them alphabetically with surname_year format. Match them with bibliographic details in your system. The goal is understanding...
When we try to place a new note, the slip-box's chain-of-notes strategy forces us to think about the connections with other notes, including unrelated ones. Instead of directly relating the note to something, we are nudged not to fit the...
The most successful learning method is the elaboration of what we've learned. When we elaborate, we first think about what we read. Then when we think about and write it, we start considering how it informs different questions and...
Contradictions within the slip-box can be discussed further in the thought line. We find (and discover) opposite thoughts when we try to place the note in the slip-box. The most important part is connecting the note with as many thoughts...
Achieving goals are only for the moment. Winners focus on the systems and how to improve them. Losers only focus on the goal. Once they reach the goal, they are done. Winners are never done. Because the goals create "Either-or" conflict,...
One of the most common systems in the software industry is continuous improvements. When we don't make the improvement, systems start to rot. However, we don't change our goal while making an improvement. Continuous improvement means...

Rewrite to learn what you didn't write When we rewrite the text we have written, we learn about the parts we didn't know before. The first writing puts the raw idea out. Editing and rewriting shape the idea and perfect it. Putting the...
